Twist
In the series Twist photographer Matt Vacca challenges us to transcend the traditional physical perspective of the everyday, giving his subjects a Claes Oldenberg like presence in a photographic space. Influenced by Jazz, Vacca physically manipulates the objects that he photographs in the same way a musician interprets a musical score. He then creates the final image as a document of the performance. Like Weston’s pepper, Vacca takes us away from what we know and to a beautiful celebration of photography’s core tenets of light and composition asking the viewer to engage fully with the fluidity, depth and form of each object.
